Clinical Decision Support: Advancing Care through Advanced Technology.

PeriGen invested more than 375 physician work years in advanced clinical decision support development, and holds 16 patents (21 pending) for technologies related to Obstetrics.

PeriGen, Inc. is a technology-enabled professional services company specializing in clinical quality improvement and risk reduction in Obstetrics. A pioneer in clinical decision support, PeriGen provides innovative, real-time solutions and a full suite of complementary professional and consulting services that assists hospitals in reducing risk and improving clinical outcomes.

Driven by evidence-based care.

At the heart of PeriGen’s EMR solution, PeriBirth®, is a Knowledgebase of 6,500 protocols and best practices as delineated by the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN) and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG). Incorporating a hospital client’s protocols, the Knowledgebase is coupled with the Company’s 400,000-birth database creating a superior clinical decision support platform that drives improved clinical outcomes as well as financial returns on Day 1 of its implementation.

At the heart of PeriGen’s EFM solution are the proprietary clinical decision support tools known as the PeriCALM® suite of technologies. PeriGen’s Fetal Surveillance and Archiving system is enhanced by tools which assist clinicians in the monitoring of labor progress, the interpretation of fetal heart rate patterns, and the identification of shoulder dystocia. Using advanced mathematical modeling and statistical analysis, PeriGen has revolutionized the art and science of labor monitoring.

Superior to EMR/CPOE systems in identifying the 50% of orders that are contraindicated due to the patient's real time, changing condition.

By comparing the care ordered against published standards of care, PeriBirth can recommend alternative care plans that incorporate best practice protocols for each patient, based on that patient's specific clinical condition as it changes over time. By analyzing changes in patterns of care and the patient’s condition—in real time—the PeriBirth system has prevented a clinically significant error in over 10% of deliveries.

Superior to EFM/FHR systems in providing an objective, individualized, real time analysis of the patient’s labor progress, fetal heart rate tracing, and risk of shoulder dystocia.

PeriCALM® Curve uses basic pelvic exam data and contraction information obtained during labor to analyze the patient’s labor progress. The patient’s progress is plotted along with a representation of the mean and outer limits of a reference population under similar labor conditions, giving clinicians an objective and consistent evaluation of the patient’s labor progress. The PeriCALM Curve is updated at each exam and adjusts for changing labor conditions such as contraction frequency or epidural use.

PeriCALM® Patterns uses powerful automated pattern recognition software following NICHD definitions to analyze FHR tracings and provide clinicians with continuous feedback on contraction frequency, average FHR baseline and variability. Monitoring contractions and FHR response is an integral part of OB care for women in labor, particularly when that labor is induced or augmented. With PeriCALM Patterns, alerts can be set according to clinician preferences regarding contraction rate and persistence criteria. PeriCALM Patterns also provides automated calculations and quick review or navigation throughout the entire tracing, so clinicians can focus on patient care.

PeriCALM® Shoulder Screen uses advanced algorithms based on maternal and fetal characteristics to help clinicians identify patients at greatest risk for shoulder dystocia with brachial plexus injury. Studies have shown that physicians using selective testing with the PeriCALM Shoulder Screen experienced a 50% decrease in the rate of shoulder dystocia, with no increase in the primary cesarean rate. Depending upon preferred thresholds, its detection rates between 44.8% and 61% could translate to multimillion dollar savings for large hospital systems or insurers.
