Thomas J. Garite, MD, FACOG, Maternal-Fetal Medicine Expert, Joins OB-Risk Reduction Firm, PeriGen, Inc.

Princeton, NJ (January 7, 2010) – PeriGen, Inc., the only OB-specific risk reduction company to provide solutions which generate immediate quantifiable clinical and financial value, today announced that Thomas J. Garite, MD, FACOG, will join the Company’s Physician Council. As a member of PeriGen’s Physician Council, Dr. Garite will advise and assist PeriGen in developing solutions to improve clinical outcomes and increase patient safety in Obstetrics.

A specialist in Obstetrics and Gynecology as well as Maternal-Fetal Medicine, Dr. Garite is currently Editor-in-Chief of the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Chairman of the Society of Maternal-Fetal Medicine Foundation, and Director of Research and Education for Obstetrix/Pediatrix Medical Group.

An expert in fetal strip assessment, Dr. Garite will work closely with Emily Hamilton, MD, FACOG, PeriGen’s Senior Vice President of Clinical Research, to establish a research agenda using PeriGen’s 300,000-birth database.

I am certain that Dr. Garite’s contribution to our research, publication, and solution development will be invaluable.” Dr. Garite is a past president of the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine, as well as a twelve-year member of its Board of Directors, and an SMFM Career Achievement Award recipient. In his career, he has published over 100 original journal articles, and a similar number of abstracts, chapters and invited articles. The author of five textbooks on maternal fetal medicine, Dr. Garite remains active in clinical research; specifically in the areas of intrapartum and antepartum fetal assessment through fetal heart-rate monitoring, prematurity, and the management of labor. A recently retired Edward H. Quilligan Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of California at Irvine, Dr. Garite served 18 years as this Department’s Chairman, and now holds the title of Professor Emeritus.
